What do the lights mean on my telematics hardware device?

An overview of the lights displayed on an asset telematics hardware device.

This guide explains the meaning of the indicator lights on the asset telematics hardware devices used for tracking and data communication within the T3 system. Each light corresponds to a different status, such as power, GPS, or cellular connectivity.

CalAmp 3030 / 3035 Devices

  • Red Light (Power)

    • On: Device has power.

    • Off: Device is running normally.

  • Yellow Light (Cellular)

    • Blinking: Searching for cellular signal.

    • Solid: Cellular signal acquired.

  • Green Light (GPS)

    • Blinking: Searching for GPS signal.

    • Solid: GPS signal acquired.

CalAmp 2830 Device

  • Yellow Light (Cellular)

    • Blinking: Searching for cellular signal.

    • Solid: Cellular signal acquired.

  • Green Light (GPS)

    • Blinking: Searching for GPS signal.

    • Solid: GPS signal acquired.

MC-4+ Device

  • Red Light (Power & Charging)

    • Solid: Device has power.

    • Slow Blink: Internal battery is charging.

    • Fast Blink: Internal battery charger is faulty.

  • Yellow Light (GPS)

    • Slow Blink: Searching for GPS fix.

    • Solid: GPS fix acquired.

  • Green Light (Cellular)

    • Fast Blink: Searching for cellular signal.

    • Solid: Cellular signal acquired or signal is sufficient.

    • Continued Fast Blink: Signal strength inadequate.

  • Blue Light (Pairing / Bus Test)

    • Slow Blink: Device is unpaired or starting vehicle bus test.

    • Fast Blink: Vehicle bus test failed.

    • Solid: Device paired or vehicle bus test passed.

Installation Tip: Keep all lights steady in their final states before beginning regular operation.

MC-3 Device

  • Red Light (Power)

    • Solid: Device has power.

  • Yellow Light (GPS)

    • Blinking: Searching for GPS signal.

    • Solid: GPS signal acquired.

  • Green Light (Cellular)

    • Blinking: Searching for cellular signal.

    • Solid: Cellular signal acquired.

    • Fast Blink: Signal strength inadequate.

During Installation

  • Blue Light:

    • Blinking Only: No data is being pulled.

    • Solid: Data transmission is active.

  • After initial sequence, lights may turn off briefly, then resume.

  • Watch for the blue-yellow-green blinking pattern.

  • Allow yellow and green lights to turn solid, then power down.

  • Upon vehicle restart, red, yellow, and green lights should remain solid.

The device checks in every 12 hours (ignition off) or every 10 minutes (ignition on). It enters sleep mode when idle and resumes normal mode upon movement or ignition.

Note: If the green LED doesn’t turn solid after 1 minute, turn on the ignition for 1 additional minute. If still unresolved, contact T3 Support.
