How to Use the Keycode to Start Equipment

Instructions on how to start a machine using a keycode.

Keypad access can be used on both EquipmentShare rental equipment and customer-owned assets equipped with T3-compatible keypads.

Follow the steps below to start your machine using your assigned keycode.

Quick Start (Most Common Setup)

  1. Pull out all E-Stop buttons.

  2. Enter your assigned code.

  3. Press ENTER.

  4. Press START (if available).

If the machine does not start, check the LED indicators below.

Where to Find Your Keycode

Your keycode is assigned when the rental begins.

You can find it:

  • In the on-rent email sent to the rental order creator

  • In T3 on the Rentals page

  • By creating a custom keycode in T3 (see Creating an Access Keycode)

Starting Equipment by Keypad Type

Identify your keypad layout below and follow the matching instructions.

Keypads with ENTER Only

Used on electric-driven scissors or machines with ON/OFF-only keyswitch functions.

To Start

  1. Pull out all E-Stop buttons.

  2. Enter your assigned code.

  3. Press ENTER to operate.

To Turn Off

  • Press OFF.

Note: If the original keyswitch is still installed, the key will not function until a valid code is entered.

Keypads with START and ENTER

Used on machines with a mechanical keyswitch that starts the engine.

To Start

  1. Pull out all E-Stop buttons.

  2. Enter the assigned code.

  3. Press ENTER to activate ignition/accessory controls.

  4. Press START to start the engine.

To Turn Off

  • Press OFF.

Keypads with GRND and PLTFM

Used on aerial equipment including scissor lifts. The keypad defaults to GRND mode after successful code entry.

To Start in Ground Mode

  1. Pull out all E-Stop buttons.

  2. Enter the assigned code.

  3. Press ENTER.

To Switch to Platform Mode

  1. Enter the assigned code.

  2. Press PLTFM before entering the basket.

To Turn Off

  • Press OFF.

Keypads with GLOW

Used on machines equipped with glow plug or grid heater functionality.

To Start

  1. Pull out all E-Stop buttons.

  2. Enter the assigned code.

  3. Press ENTER.

  4. Press and hold GLOW for 5–10 seconds to preheat.

  5. Press START to start the engine.

To Turn Off

  • Press OFF.

Turning the Machine Off

To turn off the machine:

  • Press OFF on the keypad, or

  • Use the E-Stop buttons

Important: If the E-Stop button remains pulled out, ignition power may remain active and drain the battery.

Troubleshooting

Machine Does Not Start

  • Confirm all E-Stop buttons are pulled out

  • Confirm the code was entered correctly

  • Verify the keypad LED behavior

  • Verify the keypad has the correct keycodes assigned in T3

Flashing Red LED 1

An invalid code was entered. Re-enter the code carefully.

Flashing LED 3

The keypad has lost communication with the tracker. Contact support if the issue persists.

LEDs 1, 3, and 4 Flashing Red with LED 2 Blue

The keypad has lost communication with the ECM-01 CAN module.

Contact support if the issue persists.
