What is a Work Event?

A key feature of Time Cards is the ability for a worker to associate their on-duty or clocked-in time to specific work. Knowing this data is essential for companies to understand how much time and labor is spent on projects and jobs. When Clocking In from the Link mobile app, employees can associate their time to a Branch, Work Order, Job, Work Code, or Asset. Here's a breakdown of how you can assign your time to a Work event.

Branch

An employee can be assigned to a branch through their Company settings, and when clocking in, their default assigned branch will display. The employee has the option to select a different branch. To make a branch selection, tap the > arrow next to Branch.

Based upon your branch selection, the Work Codes and Assets will filter to display those assigned to the branch.

Asset

An asset can be assigned to a time entry. To make an Asset selection, tap the > arrow next to Asset and choose from the list of available options.

Only assets assigned to your branch selection will be available for recording time. If selecting a Work Order from the Clock In screen, the asset tied to the WO will populate in the Asset field.

Work Order

An employee can also log time towards a Work Order. Work Orders are digital service tickets used by Service Technicians in the T3 Service dashboard. To make a Work Order selection, tap the > arrow next to Work Order.

The Work Orders displayed are those assigned to you. However, you can select a Work Order assigned to a different branch from Select Work Order > All Work Orders. The Branch field on the Clock In screen will change to the branch associated with the WO.

Job (and Phases)

Jobs are containers for work and are established in your Company settings in T3. To make a Job selection tap the > arrow next to Job. For more information on setting up jobs and phases, see Adding Jobs and Phases for Time Management.

Any Jobs for the company will display on the Select Job screen. Phases will appear underneath a Job in the list. After choosing a Job, the Work Codes will filter to only show those associated with your Job selection.

Work Code (Cost Code)

A Work Code is a cost code established by a company to account for the various labor costs. Some examples of Work Codes are cleaning, building maintenance, general labor, and concrete work. To assign time towards a Work Code, tap the > arrow next to Work Code. For more information on setting up Work Codes, see Creating a Work Code (Cost Code) for Time Management.

The Work Codes will be filtered based upon previously selected Work Events on the Clock In screen. If a Branch or Job is selected, the Work Codes associated will display. If there are no Work Codes associated with the Branch or Job, none will display.

Once you've made your Work Event selections, save your changes. Your time is now being recorded!
